What is the Cupcake Doll Pattern? 🧁
The Cupcake Doll pattern is a delightful design that combines the charm of a doll with the cuteness of a cupcake! The dress of the doll forms the cupcake "wrapper," while the dolls head is the delicious frosting. !It’s a creative, nostalgic twist on the classic transforming doll, making it a unique project to add to your collection.
I made my own version pictured here. It doesn’t have the cute little rose or toppings @daycrochet does but I think that’s why this pattern is perfect. You can very easily make it your own!

Why You’ll Love It:
- Beginner-Friendly: The pattern is straightforward, and @dayscrochet walks you through the entire process step-by-step in her YouTube tutorial. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced knitter, you'll enjoy the clear instructions and simple stitches.
- Fun Design: The cupcake doll is not only cute but interactive, making it a fantastic toy for kids or a charming display piece.
- Customizable: You can easily switch up the colors of the doll’s dress and cupcake base to personalize it or match a theme, making each doll unique.
What You’ll Need to Get Started 🧶
To knit your own cupcake doll, you’ll need a few basic supplies:
- Yarn: Choose at least 4 main colors—one for the cupcake base and one for the doll’s dress. You can go for pastel shades for a soft, playful look or vibrant colors for a bold, fun twist. You’ll need a color for the dolls skin and don’t forget a contrasting color for the hair/frosting!
- Circular Knitting Needles or Circular Knitting Machine: Depending on the thickness of your yarn, you'll need a matching needle size (usually around 3.5mm to 4mm for most yarn types). If you are using a knitting machine a circular 22 pin machine. Addi or Sentro or another brand. Take your pick!
- Stuffing: You’ll need some stuffing material to give your doll a plush, full look.
- Tapestry Needle: This will come in handy for weaving in ends and sewing the doll together.
- Optional Embellishments: Add buttons, bows, or embroidery to give your cupcake doll a personal touch.
The Youtube tutorial by @dayscrochet walks you through how to do everything step by step! If you don’t have a circular knitting machine and are using circular needles instead. Be sure to cast on 22 stiches and follow along with the tutorial color changes on the same row as in the video.
When it comes to the sleeves, she hot glues them on. This is totally an option, but I left my tails long and just sewed them on.
